This is the Kensai kit divided in 15 Sword Saint kits (one for each melee proficiency) trying to be as PnP as possible
SWORD SAINT: A saint sword is a warrior who has been specially trained to become one with his weapon. They are deadly, fast and have been trained to go into battle without wearing armor. (Note: Despite its common name, a Saint Sword may use any melee weapon with which he is proficient.)
The Saint Sword, or "gifted one", is as much defined by their mindset as by their actions. As their name implies, the Saint Sword dedicate themselves to the complete mastery of whatever they study, not the mere basic understanding, so that whatever they pick up, they will not be satisfied with until they are as skilled and as knowledgeable as is humanly possible. Thus, their life is defined by a pursuit of excellence, both mental and physical, in their chosen field(s). Although not all Saint Sword share the same pursuits, what is common among them is that they divide their time between intellectual and combat training, thus all Saint Sword practice in the art of at least one melee weapon. Their fighting style, similar to monks, relies heavily on speed and agility, and thus they never wear movement encumbering armor. As well, their philosophical mindset extends to the practice of combat, as they only desire to test their fighting skills in fair or honorable battles, and thus would never personally preform roguish or underhanded maneuvers; this is not to imply, though, that all Saint Sword are good, but rather follow a strict code of conduct and rules they hold themselves to.
Unlike the Kensai, a Sword Saint is really focused on one proficiency, he is true archmaster with his dedicated weapon, executes unbelievable attacks, trains to be always as softly, keenly and deadly as possible, never relies on a burst of nonsenseness but favor a more constant, deliberate and wise approach where each attacks is/should be a perfect move. He uses his flying weapon as a shield to protect from any Critical Hit, improves his own Critical Hit chance, slays his foes as soon as there is an opportunity...
People that are not aware of the Sword Saint's class will merely feel uneasy around them, like if they were near a large predator. Individuals who do know their nature will stay out of their way unless they have some pressing concern to address that the Sword Saint can help with, such as slaying a dragon or ten. Individuals who know their nature and are forced to interact with them will treat them with the utmost respect, more out of fear of being dismembered than anything else. Sword Saints will commonly spend many weeks or months away from other humans, so it is somewhat understandable that they find other people irritating at best. Saint Sword instilles fear not the reverse.
Any Sword Saint whose reputation falls below 6 loses his status in the class, thereafter he is treated as a fighter and advances in level according to the fighter class.
Advantages (while using his dedicated weapon):
- 1st level: gain a bonus of 1 to his Attack/Damage/AC/Speed Factor, this value increases every 3 level (every 4 level for speed factor)
- 2nd level: attacks are treated as a +1 magical weapon at level 2. This enchantment improves to +2 at level 5, +3 at level 8, +4 at level 11, and +5 at level 14
- 9th level: immune to critical hit
- 15th level: Critical Hit chance improved by 1
- 16th level: immune to fear and morale failure
- 17th level: each hit can slay opponent - negates by a Save vs. Death at -4
- 18th level: inspire Fear 1/day, 30-ft. radius - negates by a Save vs. Paralyzation
- 19th level: gain 1apr
- 1%/level per hit to make maximum damage
Disadvantages:
- Alignment restricted to any non-chaotic
- No race restriction, no dual restriction
- May not wear any armor, headgear or shield
- May not wear gauntlets or bracers that improve damage, THAC0 or AC
- Cannot specialize in any weapon other than his chosen weapon
- Can only train in styles that apply to his dedicated weapon
- Sword Saint has only one weapon slot
- Must use his dedicated weapon to unleash his full potential
- Cannot use his dedicated weapon in off hand
- There can be only on Sword Saint in a party
- Any Sword Saint whose reputation falls below 6 loses his status
- Must train in his dedicated weapon proficiency at level 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 or become Fallen
- Gain only 90% experience points while not using their dedicated weapon (gain a small amount of xp per hit while using their dedicated weapon)
- May not use any magical weapon of his dedicated proficiency
