Help my party heal the lands.

I am re-approaching this game with both fervor and apprehension. I have really bad restartitis and the number of combinations are overwhelming, which is what leads me to quit halfway in. Compulsively organizing things in my mind makes it a struggle to complete games, so finishing this game has become a personal spiritual goal because I love dungeon crawlers. I want to see the end of this game! I'm not an expert level veteran (although I understand the mechanics very well) and have zero interest in powergamer min/maxing.

I'm chaotic good at heart and RP as such, so the team theme is a mix of true neutral to lawful good light-bearers bringing peace and restoring nature wherever they go. I have some really specific aspects of the group that just feel right, but I have too many ideas and someone has GOT to go. Maybe someone who likes puzzles can help me fill in the gaps. I definitely want a 5 man party. That's the sweet spot for me. No duals, period.

Considering:
Sun Soul Monk
Priest of Lathander
Fighter/Cleric
Ranger/Cleric
Fighter/Druid
Avenger
Illusionist
Sorceror
Thief/Illusionist
Swashbuckler
Bard
Skald

Obviously I want more of a flavor team than a bunch of bulldozers. It feel wrong without a Druid. The monk is also calling to me. I like an obsessive amount of diversity: each armor type on their paperdolls, each fighting style represented, and an aesthetically appealing mix of races.

I implore you, fellow Beamdog enthusiasts, pick up where my psychologist left and off and meet me in the middle of this project. Narrowing it down to that list was... Like... Really hard.

Well, if I were to make a well-balanced five member party comprising only the options that you've mentioned above, it would be something like this:

    1. Half-Elf Ranger/Cleric (I prefer using the "unfixed" version, that is, the one having access to all Druid spells, but if you don't want to do so, you can always choose Fighter/Druid. It's nearly as good, except the lack of some powerful Cleric buffs and free two-weapon fighting.)

    2. Dwarf Fighter/Cleric (solid front-liner with high saves and good for turning undead)

    3. Gnome Illusionist/Thief (rogue, accessory spellcaster and ranged combat option)

    4. Sorcerer (really helps a lot with the lack of scrolls in the game. Primary offensive spellcaster. You might consider the option of Dragon Disciple since it's innate fire immunity and better AC and hitpoints helps a lot in this game.)

    5. Sun Soul Monk (since you mentioned that you'd like to have a monk in your party. However, it's very poor in combat at low levels and gets injured easily. You'll have to wait until a high level to reap the benefits.)

Well, now, if I were to make a five member party comprising of any class in the game, here is how it would look like:

    1. Undead Hunter (the bonus to-hit against undead is good in this game which is flooded with undead hordes. Also serves as a solid front-liner and can turn undead at a higher level, compared to a multi-classed cleric. Single-classed clerics are nowhere near as powerful as a Fighter/Cleric or Ranger/Cleric)

    2. Ranger/Cleric ("unfixed" version. Great front-liner and support-caster. An all-round performer.)

    3. Half-Orc Fighter/Thief (19 Strength backstabs are so good, but even if you don't want to min-max the stats, it's still great as a stealth-specialist and even a front-liner.)

    4. Dragon Disciple (since Sorcerers are the best arcane spell-casters in the game. I recently completed a solo run with this class, and it was really powerful.)

    5. Un-kitted Bard (The delayed availability of mage scrolls keeps the bard at par with any mage, even with its lesser spell progression. Its high level song is very powerful, and it can fight decently as well. Adds balance and versatility to the party.)

So these are my suggestions. Hope that helps! :)

Sir I too have bad restartitus. I haven't ever finished the game. So I wish to help you and maybe even help myself. Now of your list I would use the Fighter/Druid (I love druids and hate not having them in party). Bard (same as above plus they have cool items just for them). Thief/illusionist (you will def want a thief-lots of traps) Ranger/Cleric (to be your powerhouse). Lastly either Priest of Lathander or Fighter/cleric (this one for more power first one if you like the idea of it better. Try to give them a story. A reason they are all together. Good luck to you!
