Disabling Fog of War works

The user romkansk managed to disable the fog of war in BGEE, making the game a lot more alive and colorful.
Just look at this beauty!

I jumped through the room yesterday when I got it working :smiley:

His thread and tool didn't receive much attention, but I think a lot of people (like me) prefer this look and would use it if they knew about it. Here is his old thread https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/60767/no-fog-mod

How to disable the fog of war:

1. Download and install Cheat Engine https://www.cheatengine.org/, download romkansks table settings http://fearlessrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?t=543 (second post)
2. Start up Baldurs Gate and Cheat Engine
3. Select Baldur.exe in Cheat Engine and load romkansks table
4. Check the box "Disable fog", and voilà!

It's also possible to hotkey the function, so it isn't necessary to alt+tab to switch this function.

Only downside, I can't get it to run with patch 2.5 :( I use it with 2.3.67.3.

Thank you to the author for this beautiful tool, big props! I love this game even more now.

Also, maybe somebody with knowledge in scripting (min req.15+) could take a look on it and update it to 2.5, this would be amazing. Alsoalso, with minor tweaks it should work for all the other ee titles. The script is readable in Cheat Engine. I wrote romkansk a pm, but he doesn't seem to be active in this forum anymore (press f to pay respect ffffffff).

    This mod gives you the option to disable fog effects via menu:

    That’s the atmospheric white fog that appears in specific SoD areas, not the gameplay-based fog of war.

    By the way I do not recommend removing fog of war. It has the potential to have game-breaking side effects, like creature scripts going off when they’re not supposed to and the inability to save if even a single hostile enemy is on the map.

    You are right Aionz, but disabling the script and then save/reload solves both problems. The engine has a built-in hotkey function, so it's not even necessary to alt+tab to do so.

    I can just recommend it, for me it changes the whole feeling of the game. Coming back to this game after so many years I noticed the fog of war made the game's world feel a bit lifeless, e.g. being in the city and not seeing a single person. Also I don't like the grey veil, huge fan of the game's colorful graphic :)

    Did you find a way to make it run on version 2.5?

    you can get rid of the fog of war with the cheat console using;

    C:ExploreArea();

    you won't be able to see all the sprites and such, but it will clear all the black fog away
