Will old saves work with the most recent version of BGEE?

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
I'm currently running 1.3 on Steam. Will the playthrough I'm currently on translate properly to 2.2.0 or whatever?

If it matters, I'm not using any NPCs. It's a purely player-created party, so I'm not worried about NPC scripts breaking or anything like that.

    It may be that some of the issues fixed by patches aren't fixed for you. But generally you should be alright. It really all depends on how far along you are in the game and the particular issue.

    I decided to create another party anyways. I'll probably play the other one alongside it and see how that goes, but I also wanted to try out the Priest of Tempus kit.

    Also, I can use my two favorite kits that my other party didn't have.

    One thing I've been doing is when I create a character I like, I save it to a character file. So then I can start a new game with that character any time, and not worry about what's going on with the saves.
