So, it sounds like a completely robotic male lead is okay, but a female one is not? I'm not sure I get this.
Both equally fine, of course. I forgot to mention Alita is near the top of my to watch list, would've watched sooner, but I'm allergic to movies directed by Rodriguez.
Am I to take it you think Shar Teel is a bad character then, because unlike Minsc, she needs more development, as a female? I'm glad you can enjoy female characters in theory though.
BG1 doesn't exactly have developed characters to begin with, they're one-dimensional tropes with personalities best remembered by selection quotes.
Also you shouldn't be glad, because I do not enjoy *female* characters ;) I enjoy *characters* appropriately executed to fit the theme/genre/setting/etc., some among the latter more up to my preference than others. BG1 had a lot of tongue-in-cheek comedy, of course Shar-Teel would be right at place there.
But you're just fine with hacks that make crappy movies with male leads? This IMHO is where the anti-Rey argument utterly falls into ruin, because their have been some truly awful movies made staring male leads, and people don't blame these movies sucking on male leads. Similarly, nobody said any of the countless flopped games over the decades that stared male lead characters were dreck because they were male, they are just considered a bad game period, and the discussion is ended their. As soon as the offensive thing is female, it's a big deal, and this seems to be suggesting that the problem really is the inclusion of strong female characters more than anything else. This comes across to me as a great big double standard, and I don't care for it!
It's generally not worth time and dignity to explain that trash is trash - if it's fundamentally bad, then no amount of critique can help to improve it.

But have you considered that perhaps attempts to change the market need higher standards to be held to? (Just look at the amounts of hate Epic Games Store is collecting, lol :D )

Wonder Woman wouldn't have met such positive reception had the titular character been an issue. And just in case - no, I'm not liking her because of the outfit. Those are nice legs, but it's got some chainmail bikini effect to it, and while I like fanservice as much as any other guy, it just doesn't get along with serious themes.
Had the same issue with Tales of Berseria recently - it's got a great antihero lead, but I wish she'd patch her clothes up a little.

Might and Magic 1, released in 1986, has a section of the game that is made significantly harder if you have an all-male party and significantly easier if you have a all-female party. FAQs for this game even straight-up recommend you make 6 female characters. This is DECADES before this debate started taking shape. I have to imagine if, say, Pillars of Eternity had offered a significant benefit to making a female rather than a male and only recruiting female companions or mercenaries, there would have been riots on every gaming forum imaginable calling the game out for misandry. The Wizardry series has a class (Valkyrie) that is only playable as a female. This stuff has existed forever, from the beginning, in the most formative games of the genre. Yet it only became an "issue" 3-5 years ago.
There's also Dungeon Lords by former Wizardry lead designer, where females have access to additional classes, arguably best in the game, and a few pieces of excellent equipment.

But it became an issue only few years ago because it started only few years ago and didn't exist until then - or at least wasn't particularly prominent and there wasn't much context of political trends.
What did exist twenty years ago were amazon warriors flashing boobs right and left. You might as well have said that porn also had been starring women for decades :p

It was my third play-through on FONV before I realized that a female Courier who picks up a suit of NCR armor can get onto The Strip and obtain the Platinum Chip very easily at level 2.

Some of his movies are definitely really bad--looking at you, Spy Kids 3, Shark Boy/Lava Girl, and Shorts...but then those movies were meant for children and, truthfully, that is what happens when you let your 8-year-old son write a screenplay--but gems like Planet Terror, Machete, and the first Sin City pass the "I am willing to watch this again" test. Even the original El Mariachi is worth more than one viewing.

I am not touching any of the rest of the topics in this thread. Life already has enough stress and drama without adding more.

Ah so. Okay--no worries. We cannot all be on the same page.
