pocket hell in chapter 8

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I just started Throne of Bhaal and I got transported to the pocket plane (after killing Illasera) and I can't do the first challenge because the room is sealed off. Please help.

    You find there a old friend...
    Talk to him and accept his deal, if you refuse you can not progress.
    If he does not spawn you have a bug.

    You may also need to speak to the aspect of fate, the statue which is close to where the old friend spawns, which summons old party members?

    No, the aspect of fate isn't critical for anything.
