Actually useful familiar

Is there any mod that makes it so that the familiar for mages get stronger and stronger to the point of being a sixth party member? I would say that this feeling is actually obtained by having Wilson in the party if you are a ranger. Otherwise... you leave the familiar inside the bag after summoning it and bye bye.

I've not used either of these but they do make changes to familiars. First one is, I believe, compatible with original and EE versions. I think MSFM is only compatible with EE games.

More Style for Mages is great! It has several new familiar models, and you can level up your familiar and choose new spells for it. It also has an option to allow the NPC mages to cast Find Familiar. You can also name your familiar (although you must give the name at install time).

There's other mage-y stuff in the mod besides familiars too (pointy hats!)
