in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I want to ger HD right at the start, but i dont feel like doing the planer prison at level 8. Will he leave if i procrastinate?

    No. He'll get annoyed and complain every day or two, but he won't leave. There's some dialogue to the effect of him getting fed up and leaving after about a week, but it's dummied out (trigger condition "false", so it never happens).

    There's also no timer on entering the portal once it's open. It looks urgent, but you can go do other things if you want to.

    Now, what you really shouldn't do? Don't let Haer'Dalis leave with the gem. If you have the gem and he's in your party, keep him with you until you're ready to face the prison.
