aura timer?

The way I understand it, you get a chance to use your "aura" - drink a potion, cast a spell, or use another item - once every round, and it doesn't have to cost any attacks per round.

So lately my more difficult fights have been revolving around efficient aura timing. Failing to use your aura in a round has an opportunity cost - you can at least drink a healing potion, and often there are better options. But trying to use your aura too early will get the character stuck doing nothing, except waiting for the aura to clear, which eats up attacks per round for no gain.

At least this is how I understand it. So, questions:

1. Am I understanding the mechanics correctly?
2. If yes, does anyone use tricks or even special tools to improve their aura timing? Like a clock counting to six?

1.Using or not using it in a round isn't necessarily a waste, you can still attack, after all. It really depends on what the current situation requires. So you can drink a potion or cast a spell early in the round and still attack in the same round.

2.Not really. Just count to six.
