Distance in NwN

I enjoy playing a spellcaster and using ranged spells and area effect spells.

I've found it to be very frustrating that I have no way to judge area of effect or range. Is there a solution for this? Do I just try and learn the distance and radius by trial and error?

    Seems you've misunderstood. How do I know what those numbers are? I know that long spell range is 40,. What is 40 though?
    The entire map? form 1 rock to the next? How do I measure that from my screen?

    All measurements should be in metres. So the above table converted to feet reads roughly

    40 metres. Which is 4 tiles on the minimap.

    I guess I just got used to it so I just guestimate.
    In NWN2 when you select a spell you see the AOE before you confirm the target area.
