Kivan left my party

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
Kivan told me if I did not clear out the bandit camp he would leave. So I went and killed all the bandits in the camp. He left shortly after. If clearing the bandits in the camp does not keep him in the party what does?

    Worked it out. Traveled back to the camp. I had read the noted but the cut scene did not trigger. We got there
