Best way to map a dungeon?

What would be the best way to go about mapping out a large, multi-level dungeon for a BG2:EE mod? I'm currently in the process of mapping out the above-ground wilderness area using GIMP, DLTCEP, and NI, but it's already a tedious process. Doing the same for an entire dungeon seems impossible.

I've considered using a 3D modelling tool such as 3DS Max or Blender and buying a dungeon model kit, though I have no experience with those, and of course the aesthetic will be off. I've also started looking into other game's modding tools for a dungeon maker since I just need the final image render anyway.

Anyone have any tips or ideas on how to go about mapping a mega-dungeon?

    Hello. I will reassure you, you will still have to learn how to work with 3D(3DS MAX, Sketchup, Blender and more 3D editors). As well as 2D editors as a secondary tool for final editing.
