Is there a way to make new race options for any of the Baldur's Gate games?

Hello all,
A question. I have a son who wants to mod himself a new race for BG1 or 2 (using the animation of an existing race). Is there a way to add new races? I see lots of mods to add classes and kits, but I haven't found any that add new races to use as a template.

    There have been attempts in the past, many of which have race/subrace as something you pick via dialog or an item once you've gotten into the game.

    I think now with EEEx and sufficient UI modding, you probably could implement new races into the character creation menu, although the significant amount of work required might not be worth it.
