Where did the name "Beamdog" come from?

HaHaCharadeHaHaCharade Member Posts: 1,644
Is it Scotty's dog from Star Trek or something? I Wiki'ed it and didn't find anything. Checked the FAQ on the Beamdog site too. Why do I care? That I don't know. Curiosity.

    Just a guess, but I think it's a play off of Camdawg, which is the co-founder's screen name.

    @Camdawg's not Cameron Tofer's screen name. That's a different bloke. ;)

    @Aosaw Well, that clears that up. I always assumed they were the same. (. .)

    Beamdog could be Scotty from the Gangsta version of Star Trek.

    Well, their logo's final drawing looks both like a star with beams as well as a dog's collar... :P

    Does it perhaps have to with the Canis Majoris? The dog star?

    Thinking about the type of technology they use, where the game is downloaded in a ready to play state, I think it's derived from that; beamed to you, ready to play.

    maybe it's a shortened version of "be a mad dog"?

    @ajwz: Heeyy, that doesn't sound all too bad an explanation! Very creative and plausible too. :)

    So you got this internet thing where it's like - zap, you have yourself a game. Perhaps you could say it was beamed on to your computer.

    and a dog is a wonderful companion, no? ;)

    Yo dog, I heard you like to beam, so I put a beam in your dog so you can dog while you beam.
