Yoshimo's Heart question 2

FredNFredN Member Posts: 415
.....OK, my recollection from my first run-through 7 years ago is that I can do something with Yoshimo's Heart to get some experience. (Exact details escape my memory at present, but I can always Google it if needed). However, in my current game I had left Yoshimo in the Copper Coronet back in Athkatla. Hexxat was my thief while heading off to Spellhold. So, he wasn't there for the final confrontation with the clones and Irenicus. Hence, he didn't die, and we don't have his heart.
.....So, my question is, when we finally do get back to Athkatla (which won't be until Chapter 6) and catch up to him, what happens? Does he suddenly, and for no apparent reason, fall over dead? Or does he simply vanish from the game, never to be seen again?

    Yes.

If you had the heart ... Yoshimo sacrificed himself, and sought redemption at the end. That's Ilmater's domain.

Hmmmm. ok, when we got back to the Copper Coronet, Yoshimo was indeed there, and did instantly die. However, there was no sign of his heart. What's up with this?

He didn't come with you to Spellhold, so he didn't get to betray you, and he didn't get to beg Ilmater for forgiveness before he died. Therefore, no quest.

Huh. OK, I had no idea. I left him in Athkala and took Hexxat instead, since she will be around to the end of ToB, and I wanted to give her a head start on gaining levels. But, in that case, Yoshimo souldn't die at all. Seriously, what happened? Did he have a cardiac arrest due to the surprise of seeing me? There was never any indication that he suffered from a heart condition. In fact, he should still be summonable in ToB, since he committed no betrayal. The designers didn't think this one through completely.

Yoshima is under a Geas, to betray you. If you fail a Geas, you will die. So, since he didn't come along on the trip, he failed his Geas, he died. Its a brutal spell. Designed for serious plot devices...

Again, I had no idea about this geas thing. OK, so he dies; why can't I summon him in ToB? Dying from a failed geas destroys your soul or something? Yeah, I know the real reason is plot device, but that offends my sense of logic.

I couldn’t tell you what the book the says, but it is supposed to be an awful and powerful spell. All sorts of torture and torment. My guess would be soul is imprisoned somewhere for a few thousand years or something.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a nice rationalization. But we all know that the real reason Yoshimo is supposed to be with us in Spellhold is to die and make room in the party for Imoen. The designers didn't want to go through the bother of making provisions for the 1 in 100 times the party left Yoshimo in Athkatla. Well, sorry guys; Imoen isn't my actual blood sister, she is at best a mediocre thief who will never get HLAs, her Bhaal powers are far weaker than mine, and Edwin is twice the mage she will ever be. Without Yosimo to conveniently fall over and die, I had no room for her in my party. I callously kicked her to the curb and told her to make her own way back to Athkatla. Remember, my crew are a bunch of nasty, evil scumbags who rejoice in doing dirty deeds. (::cues up a rendition of "Dirty Deeds done dirt cheap"::) And I'm a pragmatic barstid who wil do anything and sacrifice anyone in order to become the next God of Murder. B)

No doubt you’re evil! Imoen is my best buddy, I have literally never done a run without her.
