You can't keep a bad man down

Well, this was a bit of a shock. Not only do I have to deal with trash like Ogre Mages and such but ... Bhodi and Irenicus both came back? Into my pocket plane no less? I thought I had seen the last of those losers! Grrrr!
Well, at least these were the weakest versions of themselves. :/

It's not like those are the real deal; they're shades drawn from your past to test you.

The only "shocking" part ... have you never played a non-evil protagonist through this part of the game? The challenge throws one set of enemies at you if you're evil, and another if you're good or neutral. The next pocket plane challenge (unlocked after beating Yaga-Shura) also has a good/evil split, though that one's based on dialogue choices.

My MCs are generally true neutral; keeps my options open. I am guessing that the presence of Bhodi and Irenicus here was due to the other evil characters in the group, since everybody was imported from the end of SoA. We seem to function as a group. Everybody took part in the initial battle on the plain with the Stone Faces, for example; we were teamed against multiple opponents there as well. This is the first time I have actually progressed from SoA to ToB; which also means this is the first time I have encountered those two as part of a challenge. Hence my surprise.

You know I always play good, and Irenicus/Bohdi shades are always the last baddies. I don’t know what the evil end might be?

The evil side: Duke Eltan (human fighter, from the BG1 plot), Aran Linvail (human mage/thief), and Ellesime (elf cleric). The only one you might ever have fought before is Aran Linvail.

Also, looking at it, it's a combined alignment/reputation check. If your protagonist is non-evil with a reputation of 8 or higher, you fight various evil foes culminating in Bodhi, Irenicus, and Sarevok. If your protagonist is evil or has a reputation lower than 8, you fight various good and neutral foes culminating in Eltan, Aran, and Ellesime.

So, you're saying that your "true neutral" protagonists have always decreased their reputation with two or more of slayer transformations and obviously evil companions (Dorn, Hexxat, Viconia). Face it, you're an evil player.

.....OK, it looks like you folks are talking about stuff that happened way back in BG1. I have only done that run once; level 2 characters are just too wimpy to be any fun, and also Minsc was being even a worse moron than usual. And yes; occasionally a Slayer transformation is called for. That's a minor problem, since I can always bribe the Gods to restore my reputation.
.....The real hit to our reputation ... we dropped to "despised" ... came about totally by accident. I had given Edwin the Chain Contingency spell, and he stuck 3 Horrid Wilting spells in it. It was set to trigger as soon as any enemy was sighted. I think you can see the problem with that set-up. I had not considered that there might be non-hostile civilians in the AOE. Sure enough, there were a number of civilians around ... four if I recall ... who were promptly vaporized. We took such a hit to our reputation that we didn't have enough money at the time to remedy the siuation. (I had just dropped 40 grand on stuff at the magic shop, and another 20 to have Caspenar upgrade some of our gear).
.....Needless to say, I have since rectified that situation. :(

I'm not evil! I'm just drawn that way. B)
