To the op, I use Namarra. Rationale: did you guys notice it has +4 damage? And you can get it as soons as you are out of Irenicus' dungeon. I used it all though SOA and about halfway through TOB. For speedrun, elf +1 to hit, etc, I can't figure better. Max backstab damage is 172. Pic:
Interesting. A +2 weapon with an automatic +4 damage on all foes? That's a bit unique. I have weapons that do extra damage vs certain foes, like Daystar vs Undead, but this beats out the others that I have. Thanks for the info.
With SCS installed Daystar is almost impossible to get early game. Namarra is much easier to obtain in all instances and has the +4 damage applied to backstabs, the elf +1 to hit bonus is you play elf, and a nifty party-friendly 1 turn silence ability with a -5 save 3x per day. It is a great weapon for the SoA portion of the saga.
Oh, I have a nice collection of longswords. Namarra, Daystar, Adjatha and Peridan. I sort of cheesed acquiring Daystar. Rather than fight the Lich directly, I went in invisible and hasted, picked the lock on his strongbox and grabbed the weapon ... actions which did indeed alert him to the fact the he was being robbed ... but too late. Whooosh! I was out the door before he could react.
Unfortunately, SCS doesn't like that kind of impropriety, so with it installed, the lich's abode features a door that cannot be opened from the inside unless the lich is dead. (same as the demilich in Watcher's Keep)
If you don't recruit Hexxat, your only other options are to recruit Jan, or play some sort thief variant yourself. Rather short sighted on the designer's part.
I'm fairly certain they included Hexxat for 2 reasons first one being that there were no evil thieves in the game so anyone wanting to play 1 rep party didn't have options there. Second reason I believe she got added is because with her and Dorn, you can finally have a full 6 people evil party.
