Hexxat

Well goddamn bloody effing heck! I can't recruit Hexxat after Chapter 4?? I had no idea. What a pain in the butt. Yeah I can grab her in ToB but it's hardly the same thing. Bah!

Yes, it's one of the few things you need to do in chapter 2 or 3.

I needs to go... To... Go to Dragomir. To Dragomir's tomb.

This is on a par with being unable ro summon Yoshimo in ToB. We interceeded with the bloody gods to redeem his soul, after all. What is preventing me from calling up his spirit to join us? Is Diivine intervention that useless?

If it kept Yoshimo from hell it’s not useless to him! It is a role playing game, it’s all about the character.

    >If it kept Yoshimo from hell it’s not useless to him! <
But it's useless to me! Boy's got skills I could use. As for RP, my character is ruthless enough that this is all they care about. B)

But that’s all the game Fred! It’s an RPG, characters and story matter. Your character will have an amazing ability to effect events and Faerun around them. But you can’t expect every break to go your way.

Go recruit Jan, he's a great thief and mage actually.

I am well aware of Jan ... and his silly cyber-punk techno gear. I did his personal quest line earlier in SoA. I am not lacking for thief skills; in fact I am working my Berserker->Thief right now in Chapter 6. A fairly vicious combination with Grand Mastery in both Bastard swords and Longswords. I can stand in the front line, or hide and backstab. That's all beside the point. IMO, Divine Intervention should let me recruit Yoshimo, if I decide I want him.

The thing of it is that Yoshimo is a sprcialist thief, something I cannot achieve unless I play a pure thief class from the very beginning. Seems rather limiting. Hmmm, maybe I'll try it and see how Chapter 1 goes.

well Yoshimo is a bounty hunter, his traps are good. He can dual to fighter, but well...

OK, decided to try this path. I had forgotten, however, how damned long it takes to get out of Irenicus' level 1 dungeon. Also that I would meet the real Yoshimo. Talk about redundant skill sets! Even worse, I suddenly realized that, not being a Berserker->Thief hybrid like I was during my last run, I can no longer claim Naliya's keep as my stronghold. In fact, I can't get any sort of stronghold until much later, when Mae'Var's Guildhall opens up for this purpose. Bugger all! How annoying. :/

OK what the heck? Yoshimo, at level 10, only has a 35% chance to set a trap? Are you serious? I'm level 9, and am rocking 65%. What's that about? :o

Ye it makes no sense, but he levels so fast, scribe some scrolls and open locks/disarm traps with him alone in the party and he will get some levels...

Anyway I don't like him because of reasons. And he looks like his socks smell so bad too.

They probably gave him enough pick locks and find traps for the dungeon. His special traps always succeed, correct?

.....OK, I am having some difficulties. I can only find 5 of the 6 wand keys. Some of the Google search are AI gemerated results, and have ridiculous statements. One says the sewer Golem drops a wand key; it doesn't. Another says that the Otyough on level 1 drops a key. It doesn't. Apparently all wand keys drop on the second level of Ireenicus' Lair. Now, I did whack Ilyitch and his goons, got the acorns for the dryads, and learned how to leave. I have actually found the exit. However, if I leave now I miss out on experience, and can't get the key to the Locked Portal, meaning I will not talk to the genie, and miss the gear he has for me.
.....Now, in the long run, it's of little matter. There will be plenty of gear and experience, but I'd like to start out as strongly as possible. I am going to be relying on traps alone to help free Naliya's Keep from the trolls, unlike my Berserker->Thief who could just stand in front and beat the crap out of enemies. Not sure how that will work out, nor do I know what will happen to her Keep, since I can't run it as a Stronghold. Also, right now Jaheira is not high enough level to use Harper's Call. Any death will be permanent, so I want to pump up her experience another level so she can use that ability.
.....So, I guess I will give it one more shot at finding that last damned wand key. I can always call it quits and head to town if I can't find the last key. Bah, how frustrating! :/

I believe that key your looking for (for the Genie) is in the first bedroom, the one before the Dryads. Look through all of the locked cabinets and chest.
But the wand keys, I always come up one short. I think its random as to which one. Besides, those wands all have just a single charge. They aren't worth much.

Not worth much as magic items per se, but they allow you to defuse all the wand traps and progress on the level.

Funny, I’ve probably played that 100 times. But isn’t one already tripped or broken or something?

Not worth committing to long term memory…

I can't find the final bloody wand! Supposedly some mephit somewhere has it; but I have whacked a dozen mephits, and so far no luck. I will give the area one more scouring, then say sod it all, and go to town.

Theee should be one in his bedroom, one on the otyugh, one on the clone and three in the mephit area.
I always search all locations before the wand room and I never miss one.

What is broken is a pillar but it does not have a trap associated to it.

Ah right! I knew one was a dud!

    Bioware devs actually

i remember reading a thing about how Yoshimo ( or perhaps the voice actor for Yoshimo? ) had some sort of contract disputes with Bioware at the time, so that is why he cannot join ToB

if i also recall correctly, back in the vanilla SoA days ( before ToB ) Yoshimo did have dialogue when you went to hell in chapter 7, dont know if it is still there or if the installation of ToB took it out, so there was original intention to keep Yoshimo around, but then stuff happened and i guess he had to permanently had to die off some how i guess

What otyugh? The only one I can see is the one on the first floor, and there is nothing there. I didn't see any Otyugh on second floor. I got the clone's; where is the Mephit area? I killed some mephits and none had a key.

the otyugh is in the middle of the first area ( where you give the golem the key to open the doors to this area )

the mephit area is basically the beginning of the second area after yoshimo joins your team with the mephit portals ( and also the area where you find that khalid is dead and jaheira morns for him )

I will say this once more. There is NO key on the otyough area on the first floor. One source says this can be hard to find. Yes, it's hard to find, because it doesn't exist! I painstakingly crawled over every inch of that area and there was nothing to pick up. As for the mephit area, yes I gpt that one; but it wasn't dropped by a mephit, it was on a loot table.
  • FredNFredN Member Posts: 716
OK, I usually like to find out stuff on my own but this annoyed me so I went to the most reliable outside source I know, Game Banshee. They also said that the Wand of Frost key is on the damned Otyough in that first level room! Now, I found all the other crap they said was there, the potions etc. but not the wand key. WTF?? I went over to Steam and did the verify file integrity thing, and they swore up and down all the files were intact. So what the heck?? Is my game just irrevocably bugged?
  • atcDaveatcDave Member Posts: 2,747
Or you moved it and dropped it?
  • lroumenlroumen Member Posts: 2,570
Did you freeze or petrify the otyugh? Maybe the wand does not drop if you shatter the beast upon death.
  • FredNFredN Member Posts: 716
I am going to start a new game totally from scratch, with a different character class, specifically to kill that damned Otyugh and see if it drops anything.

it could also be a mod issue, especially if you have a creature mod that replaces the otyugh in the first area

the key is flagged as a critical item, and if im not mistaken even if a creature is petrified or frozen chunked, or disintegrated critical items still remain on the body - unless of coarse a mod issue is involved and the critical item flag was removed and the otyugh died in said fashion
