Stuck in chapter 7... any help?

im playing bg1ee via gamepass

I entered Chapter 7 and read that finishing the main story prevents me from playing ToSC, so I completed ToSC first.

After finishing ToSC, I returned to Baldur's Gate to continue Chapter 7.I went into the sewers and killed Slythe and Krystin. After getting the invitation scroll, i went to the Ducal Palace, but there are no guard NPC outside and I can’t enter the palace at all.

Is this a known bug? And how can I fix it?

also i have another problem.
Sarevok’s Diary disappeared after I stored it in my scroll bag. The bag was almost full at the time and the diary vanished along with some other scrolls. I can’t find it anywhere in my inventory now. (went back to the Iron Throne building, but nothing was there)

i’m hoping there’s a way to continue without restarting the whole playthrough.

first, its not imperative to have sarevok's diary, as long as you grabbed all of Slythe's scrolls one of them will also give you proof of the assassination attempt so as long as you have that scroll as well you should be fine

if the flaming fist dude isnt there, then the door might be open already, are you able to get in?

and if you already did the sarevok confrontation then you need to go to the thieves hide out and go down the stairs into the maze

To be exact, something is clearly bugged.
Part of Baldur’s Gate has reverted back to the state before visiting Candlekeep.

For example, after returning from Candlekeep, the Flaming Fist guards that used to chase me are now gone, and the Iron Throne building has reset to its pre-Candlekeep state. Encounters like Marek’s poison quest have also restarted.

Meanwhile, Scar is dead and gone, and I had already rescued Duke Eltan — but now he’s missing from both the Flaming Fist Headquarters and the Harbor Master’s building.

I also no longer have the Candlekeep entry scroll, so I can’t replay the Candlekeep events or restore the city to the post-Candlekeep state.

    it's messed up.

do you have any mods installed? because this sounds like some serious issues and usually if there are a ton of mods installed, things like this can happen

I didn’t install any mods — the game is completely vanilla.

is it on PC? if so can you upload a save file? so then i can dig around and see what is happening

PC Game Pass here. I've also had a lot of issues with saves resetting whole areas. It was mainly minor inconveniences having to re-explore and such, but the latest one has made a quest, and an achievement, impossible to get.

Everything reset after Durlag's Tower, including Ulgoth's Beard. I did the ice island first, but when I return after Durlag, Shandalar is there again, teleporting me to the island. As the quest is completed already, however, he doesn't teleport me back after I find his cloak. So if I return to Ulgoth, I get teleported to a place I can't return from, meaning I'm unable to find, and fight, Aec'Letec.

The game reset areas several times during my playthrough. I play completely unmodded, with zero changes to any game files as it's all via game pass.

I've heard that this can also happen in BG2, and since I don't know how to avoid it or minimize the risk, I'm slightly worried about starting the game.

i remember back in the day someone was having this issue, but in reality it was because the EE game makes so many save files, at different times, that they were actually loading the wrong save file, could it be that you are loading different save files then you think you are? for example, every time you go to a new area, the game auto saves, when you quick save, there will be 3 more back up quick saves, every time a new chapter starts, the game saves

there could be a possibility that when you are finished playing for the day you are relying on a quick save or auto save, and if you choose the "continue game" option it might not choose the most recent save and make it look like you have unfinished areas that you did before, but its because you are actually using an older save file

now if its actually bugging out ( and its not because of the "game save" scenario ) maybe it has something to do with the game pass in of itself? because im not aware of this happening with the ownership of the default game itself ( as in not using game pass )

Not an issue with an incorrect save, unfortunately. I've been looking at the save files (even if the Keeper apps can't handle the game pass saves for some reason, it seems). The size suddenly goes down a lot, clearly indicating that some progress is forgotten.

I've explored the Friendly Arms map and killed the first assassin there four times already. I understand the issue can also appear in BG2EE, which makes me a bit concerned about starting that game at this point.

hmm, this is unfortunate, i wonder if at this point in time the only way to by pass this is just wait until the games are on sale and just buy them so then you for sure have the full copies

because worse case scenario if this happens on PC ( which is incredibly rare if it even happens with the full copy ) then at least tools like ee keeper and near infinity editor can fix those games

Oh I already have the games on Steam. And a few copies of the originals on CD somewhere. I've played through these games quite a few times :)

I am mainly playing them on game pass for the achievements this time around.

Aaand it happened in BG2 as well now. What a load of bullshit to release a game with such major game breaking problems. I am now stuck forever in the circus tent that has reverted to before finding Aerie. As the quest is done, I can't finish it again. So EXACTLY the same problem as BG1 had, areas reverting to original state.

There is 100% a major issue with how saves are handled via PC Game Pass. I also had major problems getting the game to recognize my BG1/SoD saves, most likely for the same reason.

At this point I can only recommend to NOT play via PC game pass at all.
