No fog of war?

Playing BGEE on my laptop with an HD4000 (I have heard the integrated Intel GPU line have issues), it seems that I have no fog of war (at least that I can see). The entire map both in game and in the map screen itself are completely lit up. However if I try to click let’s say on the other side of the map I cannot do so (the game I assume thinks I do have fog of war). Additionally NPCs literally drop out of thin air. Any salutation for this? It’s more annoying than anything

    That's just for Candelkeep.
    As soon as you move to the next map, it will be black except for the area you start in.

    I read somewhere that some graphics cards don't display the fog of war correctly.
    Maybe try setting this in your config:
    'Graphics', 'OpenGL Version', '1',

    If it helps, leave it in.
