Sling: Does it require 'ammo'?

in New Players (NO SPOILERS!)
If I equip a sling does it require ammo? If it does what kind of ammo does it require?

    It requires bullets, which you can buy almost in every shop with weapons. In order to use sling, you have to put bullets in your quiver.

    Slings are also handy for keeping mages from going after enemies in melee, and they also are the only ranged weapon in the game that gets a damage bonus from having a high str. score. Almost forgot, they can also be used with a shield equipped.

    Actually in the current (14th Dec) game build throwing axes, daggers *and* slings get the strength bonus damage (this wasn't the case on the release build). See:
