Is this a bug? Broken Weapons!

Hi there, I am not sure if this is a bug but it happens quite often. My characters keep getting their weapons broken although they are normal weapons. This is troublesome because if I am not mistaken there are limited number of buyable weapons from stores. I broke about 4 weapons in one chapter, I am currently in chapter 2.

Also will this happen to magical weapons as well?

    This isn't a bug, rather it's actually part of the storyline itself.

    And no, magical weaponry doesn't break, nor does non-metal weaponry, like bows, staves and such.

    This happens because of the story (only non-magical, metal weapons are affected).

    Ok, thanks for the info. The next thing I wonder is where can I get reasonably accessible magical long swords and Axes, I am currently using Kagain, Jaheira, Khalid, Neera & Imoen in Chapter 2. I am having a hard time finding magical weapons, I could try thieving but would rather not.
