party composition advice needed

I am a cavalier paladin.
Reputation is maxed (so NO evil characters).

I have imoen (pure thief, no multiclass),
neera,
branwen,
minsc
dynaheir

BUT I would REALLY like corwan as an archer.
This is.. early? mid game? I'm level 4 halfway to 5, just did the nashkar mines main quest. So less customizing of future characters I guess.

Who do I dispose of to fit Corwan?
Neera is the romance option, branwen- well I need some heals, imoen is important to the story and for traps/locks/backstabs. Minsc I like as another tank. Only *just* dumped the bard in exchange for dynaheir (minsc was grumbling about not doing his quest fast enough). Let dynaheir die? Other advice? Or if I lose minsc and dynaheir, suggestions for another tank to replace minsc?

as an aside, if I play this to then go on to BG2, should i use all the tomes I've heard I'll find, on my main character so that the benefits carry over into BG2? Or if I say buff imoen, and imoen appears in BG2, will she keep those stats? And do I keep items that were on my main character, into BG2?
...when is BG2EE coming out btw? :)

  • If you're fine with Neera being your only Mage, then ditching Dynaheir is a valid course of action. If you let Minsc go as well, you could pick up Yeslick within the mines, who makes a good tank (Ajantis is also a good tank if you don't want to wait that long).

I don't think there's been any official word whether or not stat increases for NPCs will transfer to BG2:EE, but they definately didn't in the original. And no, you don't get to keep your items, except a couple specific items will be available in the starting dungeon if they were in your inventory when you imported. See here: http://www.forgottenwars.com/bg1/miscellany.htm

There's no official release date announced for BG2:EE. Back when they first announced the Enhanced Editions, they said they were aiming for summer 2013. Most people seem to be thinking that due to some of the delays with BG:EE, it'll be later, maybe November or December, or even 2014.

Yeah, I'd ditch Dynaheir & Minsc.

Ajantis is a fine tank, agreed.
Yeslick is also a fine tank (consider dumping Ajantis or Branwen when you find Yeslick).

II would go with yeslick, branwen, neera, Imoen, and coran. I would suggest dualing Imoen to have a back up caster when u get coran, but that's just me. That would give u a large range of spells. Coran doesn't start out the best lockpicker/ trap disarmer so Imoen staying thief would be a valid option

Im running a crossbow inquisitor and I use

    Kivan
    Branwen
    Imoen
    Neera

With every member I use a ranged weapon as default, and it is very effective so far. I guess you could switch out one of the mages if you want to add a dedicated archer. To get rid of Dynaheir without losing Minsc, you could let him die and then remove Dynaheir, and then ressurect Minsc again.

Getting rid of a matched pair is much easier than this. Just send dynaheir into a house alone (firebeads house in Beregost would be perfect, they could read books together and talk about how good folks are hard to come by nowadays) and remove her.

I guess. Not sure which method feels the most socially awkward though :)

Personally, I had the luck of Minsc going berserk and getting killed by the gnoll pack guarding Dynaheir, and she seemed to have taken note of that when thanking me for the rescue. Then I simply declined her offer to join.

Minsc's friends don't have to be your friends.

Boy, that was painful to read. Waaaay too geeky for me.

Although one might not enjoy the same company as the others in a group, acting like a fictive douchebag might have impact on your immersion. Sometimes the lines you are offered just feel a little lacking, simple as that.
