Charm spell and hostility

Never really used charm spells before on neutral/friendly NPCs, since they turn hostile on you. But do they always? And if they do, can there something be done to stop them wanting to kill me?
I remember some1 saying how they love to use Xan and charm everyone all around the Sword Coast, so it shouldn't really be that big of a problem. Maybe if I lleave the map and return only a day or so later?

Please help! After cooling Marl down and convincing him not to start a fight in the inn he's out for blood again. Would rather not kill the poor fellow...

    If you use Algernon's cloak or the nymph cloak, neutral NPCs won't turn hostile afterwards.

    Honestly @Jalily I just love you so much! Are you actually waiting in front of your computer for me to ask some second rate question and then give me an answer in a couple of minutes? :)

    Well, still don't know, what to do with the Marl situation. Probably just reload for now.
