How does the multiplayer work?

So I've never played BG multiplayer before, and now that 1.2 is out, I'll buy EE so I can play multiplayer.

But how does this work?
Let's say I'm playing online with a friend.
Who controls the rest of the NPCs? Can I control his character and vice versa? Can we both talk to people? etc.

Thanks.

You can set permissions to your liking.
You can choose who controls each npc.
You can choose who can talk, map travel etc.
Normaly you can't control his character (or vice versa) but if he disconnects you can.

Thank you, this sounds great and convenient.

So if I'm the only one that can talk, I'm guessing when I do people will see the dialog obviously, right?

If so, can they see the possible answers(even though they can't select them due to permissions?)

Yes they will see dialog even if they are away from dialog point.
Lets say you talk someone in a building while your friend is outside, he can still see the dialog.

If you're playing with a friend then using Skype, Ventrilo or a mobile phone for voice chat can be a good call.

The multiplayer (especially Beamdog.net) is now easy to use and works. It's great.

Yeah, that's what I'm planning to do, use Skype to discuss the game as we play.
