BG EE Beamdog import to BG2 EE Steam

I have a question about importing characters from BG EE to BG2 EE. I bought the original EE on beamdog and completed it fully. Now I want to buy the new BG 2 EE but I want it on Steam, because it's cheaper. Is it possible to transfer my Beam dog BG EE character to steam BG2 EE or will I have to buy it on Beamdog to be able to play my old character?

    It shouldn't make any difference which version you use, as long as you can access the games folders you should be good.

    How much cheaper is it on Steam? Although I understand money may be tight it is worth spending the little extra to support Beamdog directly to potentially help fund future EE games.
