Baldur's Gate 2: Side menu buttons only appear when game is paused

Hi, this doesn't feel like a bug so much as a feature I accidentally toggled and don't know how to untoggle.
Anyways, all of the menu options on the left side of the screen and all of the character portraits on the right side of the screen vanish when the game is unpaused, and appear when the game is paused, and I can't find a option in the options menu that'll return the game back to normal (where the side menu and the portraits are always visible). So, how do I return the game to normal?
Gameplay is still smooth and glitchless, which is why I think this is just a matter of untoggling a feature I accidentally toggled. I've been really enjoying the game so far, so hopefully someone will be able to post an answer soon.
