Black pits 2 question (spoilers)

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I was wondering if anyone knows how your dialogue choices before each battle affect the outcome.

From what I can tell, it looks like option 1 plays to audience expectation and gives you an extra 3,000 gold after the match (I could be wrong).

If you choose to beg the audience for donated items sometimes you get something (I got the cloak of the sewers in match 3 or 4). But sometimes you get nothing.

Is there a strategy to this? If you ask for gifts too much do you get less? I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, but I'd hate to miss out on fun options I might never try with the other responses.

    I have yet to try it - but I'd wager that there is a strategy to it - maybe some variable to it where begging for items later on will yield much better items.

    Perhaps it is worth generating your own information CTRL-Ying(or constantly healingyourself) through the black pits. Do it multiple times, for both choosing option 1 every round AND begging every round (to see if there is any variation). Any information is good information afterall!

    See where that takes you. I would happily do it - but I am currently no where near my machine with BG2:EE installed

    Rewards for Begging - This was using a Fighter and having to go back and re-do fights a few times. Especially the drow fight :/

    Round 1: Orc Leather +3
    Round 2: Forgot to get this one ;/
    Round 3: Spear of unicorn +2
    Round 4: Aeger's Hide +3
    Round 5: Cloak of Balduran
    Round 6: Amulet of Power
    Round 7: Silver Sword
    Round 8: Firetooth+4
    Round 9: Wave+4
    Round 10: Celestial Fury
    Round 11: Wong Fei Ioun Stone
    Round 12: Crom Faeyr
    Round 13: Staff of Magi
    Round 14: Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialisation
    Round 15: Psion Blade
    Round 16: Carosmyr +5
    Round 17: Ring of Gaxx
    Round 18: Foe Bane +5
    Round 19: Ravager +6


    After round 9 I pretty much got every item first try apart from Round 15 with a Cha score of 24.

    I sometimes obtained different items than those on your list, so there must be other factor(s) deciding what you will get from begging. I remember obtaining flail of ages, blackrazor, circlet of netheril, impaler ...

    For the record that list was from a LG Fighter.

    I should also mention - I tried begging multiple times (about 4 times, not a huge sample) on the Ring of Gaxx round to see if I would get anything different, but I did not.

    I'll go through and beg through black pits as a LG Fighter again to see if I have any variation. The more info the better ofc.

    Awesome. I wonder if it does adjust based on your class. I'll experiment with it

    I finished BP2 twice. My party leaders were inquisitor (1st time), cavalier (2nd time). I do not remember from which battles I obtained flail of ages and blackrazor, I only remeber that I obtained blackrazor immediately after the flail of ages (party leader inquisitor). I obtained impaler from the battle with that shark prince and water elementals (party leader cavalier).

    Not to get off topic, but imagine this scene:
    - black pits, my 6 sorcerers vs umberhulks
    - round 1 I cast three webs and three ice storms- nothing gets through
    -round 2 I cast six cloud kills
    -round 3 I cast six fireballs

    Done. That arena was filled with area of effect spells. That's one great advantage of the EE improvements. Graphics can handle all that on screen

    So the chance to gain the item is based off of Charisma?

    Is there a limit to how much you can beg? I noticed when I tried to beg two games in a row I rarely got something the second time. However if I choose something else and then begged again a few matches later I would always get a reward. I figured it might be that the crowd thought I was a bit too greedy if I all I did was ask for gear!

    That's what I thought too. Maybe it rolls based on charisma to determine if you get anything, and what item you get. If so, that would be one of the most random scenarios in the whole series. It makes it more fun for replay.
