How do I get through the door to Suldenessar?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I'm at the door to Suldenessar but nothing is happening. what is wrong here?

    Do you have the Rhyn Lanthorn? Did you take it to Elhan?

    yes its in my inventory.

    Elhan should teleport you inside when you bring him the lanthorn.

    Talk to him and say I brought the lanthorn, here it is.

    Sorry for going off tangent, but Elhan has 2 scimitars you can acquire (scimitars that kill bards for whatever wicked reason). Attacking him at Suldenessar wont trigger the elves in attacking you. He is unkillable and he teleports away when you attack him. You can mind drain him in a timestop to add his scimitars in your trophy collection.
