*SPOILERS* Dorn's choice of Patron

Incase you missed the subject, this post contains **SPOILERS** for the Dorn questline.

So I've compiled here a list of the short term results of making your patron choice in Ressurection Gorge. Hopefully usefull to some looking to decide what to do depending on their playthough style. If anyone has more information on what other quest, romance or otherwise changes the choice in patron results in, please let me know and I'll amend this list.

1) Kill both Ur'Gothoz and Azothet.
- Dorn freed, becomes fallen blackguard, loses ability to cast priest spells and all Blackguard special abilities.
- Abyssal Blade +3: 2H Sword. 1D10+3, +1D4 fire damage. +1 dex, -1 int. +5dmg vs demons, +5dmg vs devils, +5dmg vs good opponents.
- thaco: 2, dmg 14-23
- this option provides the best 2H sword of the 3 possibilities. I also immediately had the option of continuing the dorn romance, not sure if this was just a coincidence or the result of the choice.

2) Kill Ur'Gothoz, become patron of Azothet.
- dorn keeps Blackguard powers
- Abyssal Blade +3: 2H Sword. 1D10+3, +1D4 fire damage. +1 dex, -1 int.. +5dmg vs devils, +5dmg vs good opponents
- thaco: 2, dmg 14-23

3) Kill Azothet, continue with Ur'Gothoz as patron
- dorn keeps Blackguard powers
- Abyssal Blade +3: 2H Sword. 1D10+3, +1D4 fire damage. +1 dex, -1 int. +5dmg vs demons, +5dmg vs good opponents
- thaco: 2, dmg 14-23
- The Visage: Helmet. +1 THACO, +1 saving throws. Immunce to confuse, feeblemind, charm and fear. Protects against crit hits. Cast Domination 1/day (-2 save). Cast Breathe Acid 1/day, 6D6 dmg (save for half) , targets must save vs. death (-4) or fall unconcious.
- allows continuing with romance

confirmed that continuing with option 3 allows romance to advance.

Killing Azothet gives +5 dmg vs demons not devils. And I believe 3rd option is the best one anyway. Btw. You can place summoned humanoid inside the circle to make human sacrifice (i.e. Berserker using Horn of Valhalla)

One of the best things about Dorn in your party is that you actually do ALOT of evil stuff... resurrecting the dead druid in the room to serve as your sacrifice is the best option :D

Also edited to reflect Say10's correction, thanks for feedback.

Does anyone know if your choice affects any quests in TOB?

    It doesn't seem to.

There is a change to his ToB quest:

If he's free, he isn't forced to corrupt the tree in Lunia.

I went with freeing him. That was probably something I'll only do once. He was still half decent after that, but Sarevok really showed him who's boss in TOB. The difference between the two was staggering.

Corrupting tree in Lunia...What doeas it do???

  • @pancarao

It kills off the tree upon which grow the Silver Apples of the gods. Like, peeing in the fountain of youth. But you can harvest some of the apples for your own delectation beforehand! Yes, you can ruin your apples and eat them too.

Are they that different? Sarevok has higher CON, Dorn has higher STR (and really, there are items to offset stat deficiencies); Sarevok can achieve Grandmastery, sure, but that comes down to about +3 to hit - not exactly a huge gap. And Deathbringer Assault is random.

Grandmastery is an extra +2 to hit, +3 damage and +1/2 APR over specialisation, the last being the most important. He also gets Deathbringer Assault, which isn't exactly shoddy. Also the difference between 18/00 and 19 Strength is rather miniscule.

not only that, but you'll have so many str enhancing items by then that sarevok will probably have equal or greater strength

And what about a difference between 18/00 and 20 via the machine in watcher's keep?

So nothing at all in term of items or other useful things? Let me know thaT?

20 Str has +2 damage over 18/00. Nice to be sure, but nothing to really write home about.

And even the last isn't all that important when you've got nothing better to spend your HLAs on than Greater Whirlwind.

I'm not sure how this could even happen. Is there a cap to the number of Critical Strikes you can take?
  • @Pantalion Fair enough. Dorn is also easier to re-jigger to dual-wielding, though, since you get him at an earlier level. By the time I could have Sarevok, Dorn will already be dual wielding Crom Faeyr and Kundane.
