iPad BG:EE How to tell the time-of-day?

Back in my PC BG days, I could tell the time of day from somewhere (sorry, lost that brain cell. Don't know where now)
Can I find the time-of-day on an iPad?

    In the lower-left there should be a mechanism ticking away (where you click to pause, if you pause by clicking). If you hover your cursor over it a popup should eventually appear which says the in-game time. On a PC you can expedite the popup by holding < tab >, but I don't know the iPad analog of that action.

    With the new patch, it shows the time in the dialog box any time you pause. Also, the pause button has a moving sun and moon so you can tell approximately the time at a glance.
