Narlen darwalk thinks I'm more than one of me

Narlen darwalk, the guy from the thieves guild that talks wrongely, always thinks you've brought your party with you, even on a solo run :/
Is there a workaround?

    Avenger, but this also happened with a sorcerer. How is that relevant?

    You need to be a thief to do his quests.

    Oh. He didn't mention that. Should I be able to just send my thief?

    Yes I can. Good. But now he goes into the house, a fist officer shows up, and then nothing. There is the dialog, and the no mater what I say or how long I wait nothing happens. It's possible I'm not sitting there long enough, but it seemed like a long time.
