Bard's Proficiencies

in Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition
So, I've just started a new game on IWD:EE with a full female party, and gave my bard 1 point in Bastard Sword and Long Bow. How comes I can't equip those weapons? I'm a bit confused.

    Do you meet the strength requirements? Bow should be 6, Bastard Sword 11, Composite Bow is even more. At least that is the case in BG ...

    It is 11 for the sword and 12 for the bow, and I have 10 Str...

    Daggers are the way to go if you want to make str a dump stat.
