When can you get chinked if not -10 hit points (Minsc chunked - dont know why)?

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Irritatingly Minsc has just been chunked but I'm not sure why?

It says he lost 4 hit points after being attacked by a vampire and then disappeared.

Why did this happen?

    Its probably excessively getting hit with level drain. Reload and make sure he didn't have it active on him before you go back into combat.

    Thanks, I thought it had something to with level drain. He was also level drained a few times including at the same time as the 4 hp hit.

    Are you able to explain how the level drain caused chunking?

    If he gets hit too much his level is reduced to 0. So he can't be resurrected at that point.

    If you are feeling particularly daring and are faced with the prospect of him being surrounded by vampires you could just use his berserk ability. It will protect him from level drain though he will attack anyone (including party members and innocent bystanders) as long as you remain in combat.
