Map loops after frozen aquarium - missed required quest?

in Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition
From the frozen aquarium the exit to the upper right leads to a transition area but that just leads back to the aquarium downstairs where the slaves were hiding from the frost salamanders. I've rescued all the slaves (salamanders' and frostbite's) gone through the giant's cave and got the giant king's token, so what else am I missing? Is there some secret combination of doors to get to the lower Dorn's Deep?

    did you explore the entire transition area? if so, check your map while you're there, it should give you annotations as to which cave leads where
