Escape from Drowville

Well, so much for subtlety. Imoen, having been caught in the act of purloining the real dragon eggs from the treasury and surrounded by the guardian golems, panicked and started yelling for help instead of trying to turn invisible again. Bah! What a wimpy Bhaalspawn! We're supposed to have nerves of steel.

Oh well; the original plan had been far too clever for MC's liking anyway. Plan B was far easier for MC to understand ... if it's in your way, kill it. (BTW, this IS being subtle, for a half-orc berserker). MC and the rest rushed in and engaged the golems in a furious clash, grabbed Imoen and started dragging her out. A running combat ensued as the beleaguered party ran around the Temple. Fortuitously, they encountered the irate Matron Mother and put an end to her noxious career, thus removing her seal on the gates. The group then hasted themselves and ran for the exit, steamrollering over the disorganized Drow attempts to block their path. Even the bazaar merchants tried to get in our way, but were too uncoordinated for any real resistance.

"Can we stop and buy that spirit troll on the way out? Please? I always wanted one!"
"No, you moron! Keep running for the gates!"

A final push and they were out into the main Underdark cavern. Time to give Adorable back her eggs. They did have one set of fake dragon eggs left over; MC was seriously tempted to try and pass them off as the real thing, just for laughs, but dragons have too good a sense of smell for such a ploy to work. Adorable detected the genuine eggs right away. The fake eggs would end up decorating the walls of the Copper Coronet after the party returned in triumph to Athkatla. Actually, MC had a whole bunch of such souveniers from this extended luxury tour. The Hand of Dace, that crystal shard the kobolds were worshipping, the symbol giving entrance to the Brynlaw Brothel, notes from a Sahuagin scribe, Irenicus' notes etc. He could decorate an entire wall with this junk.

Adorable teleported everybody to the exit, whereupon it was just a simple matter of fighting through a mass melee between Drow and surface elves. Emerging onto the surface world after weeks in semi-darkness produced a bit of eyestrain. It also caused all the armor and weapons the group had obtained from the Drow to crumble into dust. Arg! Say goodbye to double digit ACs. MC did, however, get an inspiration for a title if he ever wrote his memoirs. He could refer to this particular episode as "A Farewell To Arms". One good thing; the group had scored some nice armor from MM's corpse. Keldorn was persuaded to trade in his family Firecam plate mail for something a bit more practical.

The crew was then brought before the Elven commander for some tea and crumpets.

Note: Keldorn's armor is all very nice, but it has Free Action built into it. This is fine if you want to run through an area that slows movement, or has been affected with an entanglement spell, but it also prevents being hasted during combat, or using the Boots of the Cheetah. Giving him the Gorgon Plate armor not only improved his AC but now he can be hasted during fights.

Oh yes I agree his armor is really annoying. haste is crucial and improved haste is even better, cast it on your pc, and any other fighter in your party, especially dual wielders get a massive power boost from improved haste:best combat buff ever.

Yeah. Free Action is a godsend in BG1, where paralysis effects abound and saves are bad. By BG2, saves are better, all the important disablers bypass Free Action anyway, and Improved Haste in particular is too powerful to justify losing out on.
