Help setting up multiplayer

Hello me and my friend are trying to play online together. We are both connected through the same hub that is connected to my modem. I am using windows 7, he is using windows xp. I can't get it to connect. Help please? On my game for some reason I cannot chose IPX or MODEM, but he can. I figured TCP/IP should work, but we cannot connect.

    I got it to show the game now, but still can't connect.

    I can see a game he makes, but he can't see a game I make.
