#16056 Aldeth should not betray the protagonist after exposing Sarevok

edited August 2015 in BG:EE Bugs (v1.3)
Description

1. Load Attached Save
2. Talk to Aldeth (2,2,e,2,e)
(cutscene)
3. Talk to Flaming Fist/Angelo (e,1,e)

Observed

Aldeth betrays charname to the Flaming Fist. This also leads you to be tried by Angelo, and if you've already had Neb help you escape this leaves you unable to advance any further.

Expected

Since Sarevok has been exposed the Flaming Fist should no longer be looking for you. Aldeth should not betray you to the Flaming Fist.

Notes

This is happening after the ducal palace battle, meaning that Sarevok has already been exposed and the Flaming Fist are no longer looking for you on the streets of Baldur's Gate.

Original post:

This one may have existed forever, because it'll only happen in a particular circumstance, but it's game-breaking if it does happen.

Scenario: you aided Aldeth in chapter 4 (and thereby gained access to the Merchants' League Estate) and aided Aldeth again in Chapter 5 (clearing out his doppelganger colleagues), then got arrested by the Flaming Fist in Chapter 7 (and used Neb's aid to escape from the Flaming Fist Castle), then later in Chapter 7 you solved Sarevok's assassination plot (and were therefore ruled innocent of the murders of Rieltar & Brunos). Now ...

Observed: if you re-visit Aldeth in the Merchants' League Estate, then he still betrays you to the Flaming Fist (as if you were still wanted for the murders), and if you surrender to the Flaming Fist then you are again "tried" by Angelo and again imprisoned in the Flaming Fist Castle. However, Neb has already escaped (with you, earlier), and there is therefore no way out, so your game is broken.

Expected: after you have been ruled innocent of the murders, Aldeth ought to greet you as a friend instead of having you arrested.

Note: an experienced player wouldn't expect anything further from Aldeth and therefore probably wouldn't ever go back and fall into this trap, but a new player might quite credibly try it.

Should not be hard to fix

@Gallowglass: the repro steps are probably pretty good, but is there a possibility of popping up a saved game for me to verify with everything up to the Chapter 7 Sarevok thing?

@Illdyth - okay, I've just made one especially for you. (This was an archive save just before the final battle with Sarevok, but instead of starting the fight, I've walked the party back to the Merchants' League Estate and stood them in front of Aldeth.) Load it up, speak to Aldeth, and surrender to the Flaming Fist when he calls them ... and you'll be stuck in their prison for the "murders" of the Iron Throne leaders.

That's a blatant "continuity error" (because you're no longer wanted for the alleged murders), and a game-breaker (because there's now no way out of the prison).
