Your pre-SoD save should work fine with the transition to SoD. The only possible exception might be a Final Save, but even that you should be able to import over to the expansion.
On the other hand, if you start a new game, you'll get to see all new Tutor dialogue in Candlekeep, so, you know...decisions.
I want to talk to the new tutors so I can get the Steam achievement. I'm going to wait for 2.0 to start a new run, I think, because I like achievements.

Tutor dialogue? What is that? A new tutorial?
The monks at Candlekeep have more things to say than in previous versions. Anyway, you can always check it since they are all on the prologue.
I personally never liked when a game breaks the immersion by doing tutorials.i
