    Yes, and Mac.

I dont think they're able to release their official count of pre-orders.

They're able, but they won't do it. unless it hits the sweet spot, they won't comment because too few orders looks bad, too many orders will make people hesitate to preorder. I.E. people will pre order to help overhaul, but other then that, people will be happy to wait for reviews if they feel overhaul has enough Preorders.

    2000?
    is this true?
If so i'm actually a little worried
Didn't they say they need to sell at least 500,000 copies across all platforms for it to actually be profitable?

500.000 - i seriously do not believe that THAT number can be reached anyway. Depending on the age of the game and today's gamers interests and expectations perhaps we should already feel lucky if at least 50.000 - 100.000 copies are sold.

And since many fans of Baldur's Gate do also see no reason in buying the enhanced edition for whatever reasones they may have... Well.... I doubt that too man of the recent gaming people will have interest and support the EE with buying it.

I really hope Beamdog will reach a good number in the end, but so far, i still fear that the chance of a socalled "Box Office Bomb" is still incredible high, and lets face it, 2000+ preorders is not really high compared to the end result number which is wanted. One could argue that if already preorders do not pick up at some point, the long-term-number of possible future buyers will also not be THAT great.

But that question is something which should better be asked in around 6-12 months later.

But if i would take a guess... in my opinion i see a number between 20.000 and 50.000/100.000 sold copies as more realistic as a number of 500.000

They said that they hope to sell 500.000 copies, but that to make the whole thing a profitable venture they need to sell 200.000 copies across all platforms. (http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/z1af7/we_are_overhaul_games_the_team_behind_baldurs/c60mku3)

600,000 copies that is not possible. They won't get their money back. The most I can see is them selling about 30,000 for each platform in the next few years. I want them to flourish, but no market for BG:EE. None almost.

The time is still long , multi-platforms can attract lot of people who never play BG series before ~

    2000 copies , i feel it's more than i expect until now ,

I believe most of people are waiting the game review now , if the finished version is nice , i think more and more people will purchase this game ,

Don't forget , they still can put the game into Stream , maybe Overhaul will lose some profit , but it's still can sell more copies through lots of sales actions in this case.

For my personal view , i still feel the sales amount are optimistic in the near future.

And sadly even THAT number is quite a rather high one. So far i just see no way how that number can be reached.

And the Odds are quite against a succes so far.

    - Its a Beamdog only Release and many people refuse to buy somewhere else - especially when buying already at services like gog or steam

    - Between 1998 and 2012 there are WORLDS between Gamers of the past and the ones today - for the ones who see graphic as the most important/a important part - the EE is no game which they would buy

    - Many, of course not all gamers today seem to have more of a love of online Gaming like WOW and games like that, since its creating a more direct/advanced kind of "bonding" - "socialising" between gamers

    - Already the Baldur's Gate fanbase is quite divided in buying or not, since some argue that the amount of features added is not high enough, just taken from modders anyway, perhaps they see no reason to buy the game again because they already have quite many editions of the game which have been released trough the years and similiar reasons

    - Versions on other platforms are not as "complete" as the pc version, they may be cheaper, but PERHAPS this could also piss off quite a lot future buyers

    - DLC is nothing which many gamers also do want, they see that rather as nothing good, which does scare them off

    - And last but not least, many many people do want to have something in hands, a physical disc, which they do own.. the socalled Boxed Editions. And since the EE is sold in digital form, some kind of DRM is there.

Quite a lot of "may be's" - "could be's" which are standing against a possible success.

I am really curious about how this will do, as much as tastes may have changed I am always amazed at the power of nostalgia, so many cartoons and TV shows from my childhood are in the bestseller lists 20 years on and vintage and retro stuff is a a huge business.

I know plenty of people who will buy this who are not normally gamers (myself included). 500 000 is actually not that much if you think of the diversity of countries represented in the Where are they from poll it

Depends very much on the marketing and word of mouth I think

Honestly, I personally think that 100k is already a hard number to reach. I base this on looking at how good re-releases do on consoles.

I think the real question is seeing how well the game does on tablets.
  • RexfaroensisRexfaroensis Member Posts: 134
500.000 is an extremely high number to reach. So is 100k.

Maybe it's just me being slow, but I have barely seen any hype or promotion for this release outside of this forum. Maybe people should get more engaged in spreading the message...

I'm off to spam the interwebs with free BG:EE advertisements!

Yea this. First its cheaper - the only content missing are 2 of the new npc if I'am not mistaken - Second its portable and that will be 2 strong selling points.
I still have some doubts about the touchscreen gameplay but maybe it'll work well idk... its a risk, risks have been taken now we must wait and see how the fish bite.

That`s what the MEME Thread is for :), Already been spammed a few places, like EVE.
Remind all the old gamers of their favourite BG moment and watch nostalgia grow into an uncontrollable need to buy the game, muhahahaha

Penny arcade featured BG:EE in a recent comic. Might help shift a few units.

Thats a lot of copies to sell but most of my friends who have never played the game know about the Enhanced Edition so the advertising must be working. Wether its word of mouth or actual ads is hard to know.

if they made this so it could play on the consoles like the 3ds, vita, psn and xbox live, etc. they would be golden. I haven't pre-ordered yet cause I'm debating on if i should get for my macbook pro or my pc desktop, or if that's even an option. It seemed like i read the mac versions are only for mobil versions. I'm also worried what mods can and will be available. I really would prefer to play this on my laptop.
  • Tr_ondTr_ond Member Posts: 496
@FalkonSwiftblade That`s a nightmare scenario. BG proper on consoles..
  • TanthalasTanthalas Member Posts: 6,738
    @FalkonSwiftblade

There's a version for Macs too, not just iOS.

    @Tr_ond

As someone who plays games on consoles and portables too, I don't really see why BG on a console would be a nightmare.
  • Tr_ondTr_ond Member Posts: 496
@Tanthalas the controls ? BG is not an aRPG hack`n slash.
Other than that it is just my pc elitism kicking in.
  • TanthalasTanthalas Member Posts: 6,738
    @Tr_ond

Without a mouse the controls for a game like BG would always be inferior on a console, but that doesn't mean that the game would be unplayable. I certainly had a lot of fun playing Command & Conquer Red Alert on my PSX.

I believe that the tablet crowd will have to make up the difference. They have the larger audience and a more casual playerbase. Few have played BG before and may be interested in trying it out for $10. If word of mouth starts to spread and the EE ends up on some 'most popular downloads' lists then the sky's the limit.

Though the idea of throwing BG to the "casuals" still hurts me a little. App market, seems to me, like a bubble that once cellphones had, everyone just use it because they got a new "toy"phone/tablet. And the app store is so close they end up buying for no reason.

I think it'll go bananas on tablets. I don't know if they'll hit 500k, but I'm hoping they get their goal of 200k. That number, across all platforms, worldwide, over...how long are they expecting it will take to hit their sales goal? Opening weekend, no, certainly not, but over, say, six months? Sure, it could happen with word of mouth and nostalgia value kicking in.

Don't forget that there will be DLC released after launch. Not just game sales.
