Would 2e style level caps for demihumans work as a mod?

So would a mod that imposed 2e style level caps on demihumans work in the context of the ToB and would it be possible via a mod?

Thoughts that gave me this idea:
"Elf fighter/Mage is vastly superior to a human fighter -> Mage as elves are better"
"Gnome fighter/illusionist is the king of all"
Etc

Mind you, such a rule would only be reasonable if proper restrictions on GM were to apply regarding dual classing.

2e XP limits for demihumans was the worst part of 2e.

Wait what? Kensai/mage or Berzerker/mage are superior to F/M and immensely so.

Such a mod would be great if you never wanted to use demihumans in your parties. It wouldn't just be bad, it'd be completely unworkable. There'd never be any reason to pick anyone other than human because everyone other than human would be inferior in SoA and completely useless in ToB.

The major reason why those level limits exist is because when 2e was designed, the typical adventure topped out at level 10. Level 15+ was considered 'high level' and were generally 'go to hell and come back with severed heads'. The level limits for demihumans were to reflect the fact that demihumans usually live for upwards of a thousand years(in the case of elves) or 300 in the case of dwarves, so they had ample time to gain ridiculous numbers of levels over the course of multiple campaigns. Suffice to say, that issue doesn't exist for Baldur's Gate since everyone is functionally immortal for the purposes of natural lifespan.

According to my goldbox game, Mazzy's max level would be... 4. Had she 2 more strength, 6.
