Why can't Jan learn "lower magic resistance"

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Hey there,

just found the mentioned scroll and I'm not able to learn it. Whats the problem? Don't think that his illusionist specialication should do any harm to that.

    Does he already have a lot of level 5 spells memorized? If he can't learn any more spells of a given level, the scroll will look like it can't be scribed.

    As an Illusionist Jan can't learn Necromancy spells so that's not it.

    Just chug an intelligence boosting potion and try again!

    The above one is the intelligence recipe for the Machine of Lum the Mad, aside from that, there are only cheesy way, like consoled intelligence tomes, EE Keeper...
