You mean that, if you are at reputation 10 and donate 50.000 goldpieces, you should be boosted to 20, instead of having to give 500, 500, 750, 750, 1000, 1000, etc?
Not sure about having more than 1 rep boost per donation (though that might be fine as well), but it should remember your 'credit'... 50,000 pieces then 10 x 1gp donations...
EDIT: No wait, that sounds silly when I say it out loud. So while I didn't think of it to begin with, I think what you asked is the better way.
