How to select ranged vs melee when attacking targets?

I'm playing on iOS but I'm hoping this is not platform specific. On some characters, I have a ranged weapon and a melee weapon equipped (for example a short sword and a sling). Is there a way to set which weapon is used when I just click on the character and then click on an enemy target to attack? Does this require an activated AI script? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm on a PC, but I don't see why the interface should work differently. If you want to switch between your weapons, you will need to click that weapon in the quickbar at the bottom of UI. You character will use that weapon until you click another equipped weapon.
