With @AncientCowboy 's permission, I edited down his WeiDU code to make a standalone installation of my mod. Check out the OP for the download.

thanks. i just want the journal fix and this so it's nice to have a stand alone instead of using the tweaks.

@BillyYank Thanks for the mod brother. You do good work.

Question regarding issues with some of these portraits... I've noticed both with and without your UI update that some of the portraits don't function properly, ie will show up as a blank/black background. When selected, they might render in the smaller in game portraits, but won't show up in the record screen or otherwise.

I've done a little investigating, and it looks like some of the naming conventions aren't carrying over... ie the portraits that show up in game have their naming conventions converted and are displayed as such, FighterM, for example. However, some of the portraits, even as they are named correctly in the folder, (8 letters or less, have a proper designation as to their size S/M/L, saved as 24bit BMP in the proper sizing) don't have their size designations in game... so FighterM as it is named in the folder shows up as Fighter in game and displays as a black portrait box. There are hundreds of portraits that are displayed in this way.

Any ideas as to how to fix this? I've done a lot of searches but haven't come up with any actionable information besides this mod, which has certainly fixed my portrait selection problem (500+ portraits  ), but not the blank portrait problem.

    Thanks in advance!

    EDIT:
I did some more research in the naming conventions. It looks like there are some combinations of letters being capitalized that the game doesn't like... No idea as to the rhyme or reason behind this. To avoid the issue, my suggestion is to keep the capital text out of your portraits, save for the first letter and the last letter... for instance, I would name some of my portraits like:
    F: Female
    E: Elf
    Fi: Fighter
    01: Portrait number
    S/M/L: Portrait size designation.
So the names would look like FEFi01M, FEFi02M, Fefi03M... etc...
After going back and renaming several of these files that weren't showing up in the following way:
Fefi01M, Fefi02M, Fefi03M... etc... The portraits would then show up properly in game.

Hope this helps someone else in need.

I have heard of problems with capitalization, but I've never experienced them. All of my custom portraits have mixed cap filenames like FDwRg01M. The few times I've had a problem with a portrait showing up black, a forced resave has fixed it.

BTW, since you use F and M to designate female and male portraits, you might want to check out my PowerShell utility to create a M_*.lua that will put your portraits in the proper gender lists.

    Multi-portrait on Ice!

You need the Icewind Dale beta to use this.

Billy, I use it for BG I EE (+SOD) but in conjunction with different mods. General question: Does it set Gender correctly? Because, after I pick a portrait, I always have Gender = Female in the character description.
May be my ui.menu messed up.
  • BillyYankBillyYank Member Posts: 2,768
My mod doesn't touch gender, so I don't think it's anything I'm doing.

Solved it. It's my messy ui.menu. Some other mod skipped gender choice, I thought your mod auto picks gender depending on the chosen image, but it does not.Thx.

    @tortuosit
Hi, i think i have the same issu with my pictures : all the custom pictures i have in my portrait folder are considered female. What is this ui menu ?
  • BillyYankBillyYank Member Posts: 2,768
ui.menu is the text file that describe the User Interface of the game. All UI mods modify it to some extent.

When you say all your portraits are female, do you mean that none show up if you choose to play a male, but they all show up if you choose to play a female?
  • MordekaieMordekaie Member Posts: 269
    @BillyYank
Exactly, the custom pictures from my portrait folder were only showing when i choose to play a female.
  • BillyYankBillyYank Member Posts: 2,768
So your problem isn't the same as tortuosit. He wasn't seeing the gender choice box at all.

The first thing I would try is to move your custom portraits to the override directory. There's been some weird glitches with leaving them in the portraits folder, especially if you're modding the UI.

If that doesn't work, you could try creating an M_*.lua file that explicitly assigns your portraits as male and female. Take a look at this discussions for some info on how to do that:
    https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/57210/m-lua-files-and-bgee-lua#latest

Also, if you name your portraits starting with M and F, you can use my PowerShell script to create the M_*.lua file for you.

Does it source the portraits the standard way, that is anything on the patched portrait list in BGEE.lua will show up?
  • BillyYankBillyYank Member Posts: 2,768
Yes, it should show anything in the portrait list and anything in the Portraits folder.

How did you fix please? I have the same problem. I click New game > Click the first Gender button from the attribute list > Picker screen with Female portraits

I also get the BG2 picker screen not the SOD picker. I have EET with LeUI SOD. I did not install EET GUI

    Please could anyone help?
