What if characters were converted in 5e

Recently got to know 5th edition better and just of pure curiosity want to think about what classes/subclasses BG characters would be in 5e :) So here is my opinion on each (based on abilities/personality). I’m not sure about some characters, what’s your opinion?

Imoen – Rogue (Thief or Arcane Trickster)/Wizard (School of Conjuration or Evocation)
Xzar – Wizard (School of Necromancy) – well, it’s gonna be an easy choice with every specialist mage
Montaron – Rogue (Assassin)/Fighter (1-2 levels) – likes killing, that’s it
Khalid – Fighter (Battle Master)
Jaheira – Fighter (Battle Master)/Druid (Circle of the Land-Forest) – suits her backstory
Garrick – Bard (College of Lore) – I think it suits him the most
Kagain – Fighter (Battle Master)
Kivan – Ranger (Hunter)
Minsc – Barbarian (Berserker)/Ranger (Beastmaster) – Berserk + Boo :)
Dynaheir – Wizard (School of Evocation)
Edwin – Wizard (School of Conjuration)
Branwen – Cleric (War Domain) – because Tempus, obviously
Xan – Wizard (School of Enchantment)
Shar-Teel – Fighter (Champion)
Safana – Rogue (Thief or Mastermind)
Viconia – Cleric (Trickery Domain) – or maybe Death Domain?
Coran – Rogue (Swashbuckler)/Fighter (1-2 levels)
Eldoth – Bard (College of Shadows)/Rogue (1-2 levels) – well, that’s the «evil» college
Skie – Rogue (Thief)
Faldorn – Druid (Circle of the Land-Forest) – or Shepherd, considering all those things attacking Trademeet
Yeslick – Cleric (Forge Domain)/Fighter (1- 2 levels) – I assume he worships Moradin
Adjantis – Paladin (Oath of Devotion) – being paladin of Helm and all
Quayle – Wizard (School of Illusion)/Cleric (Trickery Domain) – his deity is god of deception
Tiax – Rogue (1-2 levels)/Cleric (Death Domain) – cos he’s cleric of Cyric, but maybe also Trickery Domain
Alora – Rogue (Thief) – can’t see her with anything else
Neera – Sorcerer (Wild Mage) – well wild magic is sorcerer’s thing now
Rasaad – Monk (Path of the Sun Soul) – nothing changed here :)
Dorn – Paladin (Oath of Vengeance or Conquest)/Warlock (Fiend patron) – maybe give him Oathbreaker abilities but technically he didn’t break an oath
Baeloth – Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline) – idk, maybe also Shadow Magic?
Yoshimo – Rogue (Mastermind) – now I’m not sure because there’s no archetype based on traps
Aerie – Cleric (Nature Domain)/Wizard (School of Abjuration) – suits both the character and the deity
Nalia – Rogue (1-2 levels)/Wizard (School of Transmutation)
Corgan – Fighter (Champion)/Barbarian (Berserker)
Anomen – Fighter (1-2 levels)/Cleric (War Domain)
Jan – Rogue (Inquisitive)/Wizard (School of Illusion)
Cernd – Druid (Circle of the Moon)
Haer’Dalis – Bard (College of Swords) – book straight up says these are Blades
Valigar – Ranger (Gloom Stalker)/Rogue (1-2 levels)
Mazzy – Fighter (Battle Master)/Paladin (Oath of Devotion)
Keldorn – Paladin (Oath of Devotion) – got Dispel Magic but sadly not True Sight
Sarevok – Fighter (Champion)
Hexxat – Rogue (Assassin)
Glint – Cleric (Trickery Domain)/Rogue (Swashbuckler)
Corwin – Fighter (Battle Master)/Ranger (Hunter) – well, she’s a guard
M’Khiin – Druid (Circle of the Shepherd)
Voghiln – Bard (College of Valor)
Wilson – Just a bear :)

For Viconia, I'd make a new "darkness" domain, neither death nor trickery really suits her.
Yeslick is a cleric of Clangeddin, if I recall correctly.
Neera works quite well as a sorcerer, she comes across as not all that learned, more inborn, good choice!
Baeloth can be a sorcerer, but a warlock might also suit him. Sorcerer is probably better though.
Safana might work nice with a few levels of Bard. I always eekeeper her to bard, because it fits the "night club singer" vibe she has.
Shar-Teel works well as a champion, though a splash of barbarian would suit her character very well.
Dorn as a paladin of vengeance with warlock (pact of the blade) would do very nicely, quite thematic.
Wilson could go the route of barbarian with the beast spirit thingy.

All in all, well thought out!

Now I really want to start a short pnp where people can meet these people.

    @Zilber
Well, the rulebooks say that Death and Trickery are Shar's domains, but it would be logical for her clerics to have at least a Darkness spell. I tried to do all this using only official content, though many characters would require homebrew to gain their special abilities (like Dynaheir's Slow Poison or Mazzy's Haste).
You're correct about Yeslick, I didn't found any info on the Wiki about his deity, but now I just checked his game phrases (hail the console :) ). Still think he'd get Forge Domain rather than War Domain.
For Baeloth it would be possible, I guess... wonder who would be his patron.
And yes, I agree that Shar-Teel could take Barbarian class as well!

One of the features of 5e is it tends to have less multiclassing, so I would try to avoid adding multiclasses to characters who are single classed. Trying to get the feel of the character is more important to exactly matching thier skills.

Imoen - was originally an illusionist in BG2 before ee
Monteron - Assassin =/= "likes killing people". It's too subtle for Monty. Swashbucker/Battlemaster plays more like him
Kagain - is as unsubtle as they come - champion not battle master
Minsc - has official 5e stats. He is a single classed ranger
Dynahair - 5e has options that better fit her background than 2nd edition had. An Arcana domain cleric or a celestial warlock would improve her implementation
Safana - swashbuckler - gets an ability very like her "charm"
Yeslick - as a cleric of Clangeddan he should be War domain. Which means he does not need to be multiclassed
Dorn - does not play anything like a Warlock. Oath of Vengeance Paladin.
    Yoshimo - monk(kensai)
Korgan - barbarian(beserker) no need for multiclass
    Valigar - ranger single classed
    Mazzy - paladin single classed
Saravok - if anyone is a Battle Master it's him. Or Oath of Conquest Paladin
Eldoth - I don't think the College of Shadows would let him in! Valour bard or Arcane Trickster

Where did you get that from? I have original BG2 and she's not an illusionist there.

But he has a patron, which is a Warlock feature, that's why I suggested it.

Right. My dodgy memory. Imoen could dual class to illusionist (and only illusionist) in the original Baldur's Gate. I guess I kind of got used to her being an illusionist.

An evil aligned Vengeance Paladin (quite acceptable in 5e rules) must get their spells from somewhere, and it sure aint a celestial. Better than picking something for the fluff value that plays entirely differently. Dorn likes to wander about in heavy armour and hit things with a big sword. He doesn't want to stand at the back and spam eldritch blast.
