Quick Switching weapons.

I noticed someone earlier wrote about switching weapons etc fast, a good thing in Icewind Dale 2 was that you could equip Sword and shield in a diffrent slot than the bow, i think it was up to 4 diffrent weapon slots, then you just right clicked on the weapon (Bow in this case) and a new menu where the weapon was/is shows up and then you can click the weapons. (Sword/shield in this case)
Another great feature was that pause didnt break once you managed inventory. I think they added that in the BG 2 engine aswell, but i dont remember at the moment.

    Ah yes, I remember making this request over on the Beamdog forums. You're absolutely right.

    Consider this: if I am currently armed with a bow, and have a sword and shield in my inventory. I can put the sword up, but I can't equip a shield while a range weapon is equipped. However, I can, while the game is paused, remove the bow and put the shield up.

    Essentially what that means is you can achieve in several steps (pause, take off bow, put up shield) what you cannot do in one (put up shield). That is always a problem and needs to be corrected.

    One solution may well be to simply let the player put the shield up, and indicate that it won't be used while a ranged weapon/two-handed weapon is in use, but will be if you switch to a single-handed weapon. That means your shield always stays up, and so you only have to switch between your weapon of preference.

    Trent has already mentioned on his twitter that they're looking into resolving this.

    Yeah, this is one of the problems that they really need to fix. The system they used in Icewind Dale 2 was great for this.

    Then there's no incentive to use 2H weapons in conjunction with a bow. Favor goes back to 1H weapons.

    Sorry for my bad english!
    It would more tactical if you could not open inventory while the game is paused.
    There are items for every situation so you only have to carry them all and in a certain time of battle you have to equip them.

    @Boaster

    I don't think having a messed up mechanic for swapping shields/off-hand weapons is the kind of incentive that should be implemented to make people favor a 2-hander.

    i agree with tanthalas here, as for the pause button when youre in the equipment screen -there is nothing more annoying than seeing your companions health dropp to 0 while you search for a potion of antidote, or a wandering archer monster 1 shot your mage while youre managing your equipment.

    Since I never played IWD I don't know if the ideas here preclude this, but I like how in Dragon Age you could have two slots each representing your main and off hand, which you could toggle between with a hotkey for easy adaptation in the heat of battle. I wouldn't mind such a feature, only extended to cover more than the two possibilities Dragon Age provided for (cycling between all that you've configured). Maybe this would conceptually correspond to what was formerly in the BG interface the clickable weapon icon, each now representing up to two weapons/weapon&shield.

    @caruga

    That's basically what IWD2 did. Your inventory had 4 double slots for your main-hand and off-hand and the weapon quickslot allowed you to swap between those double-slots.

    This would be fantastic if implemented.
