Game only starts in Win 95 or 98 mode

On my M15X Alienware laptop (Windows 7 64bit), GeForce GTX 260M 1GB, the game will only start if I put the Baldur.exe in Windows 95 or 98 mode. Otherwise the service will run but the game will never launch. Is there any problem in running the game in this mode, or any way to fix it? Thanks.

    not a problem,as a matter of fact is one of the proposed solutions
    there are known issues that are begin investigated by the devs
