Help altering my baldur.ini file

While the sticky thread about enabling CLUA console was really helpful, I've been encountering a problem that it was unable to answer.

Whenever I edit the baldur.ini file to allow access to the console, the changes fail to take hold. Or they hold up until the point where I boot up the game and create a new game or load an existing save. If I attempt to make the alterations while the game is running, they are overwritten as well.

I attempted to copy the baldur.ini file onto my desktop, made the changes to that file, then dragged and replaced the existing .ini file, again the same problem.

So I obviously need to change the system permissions within the properties, but having never done this in the past, I'm clueless how to proceed. If someone could give me step-by-step instruction, I'd appreciate it.

Bumping in hope for a response with an update on information:

I'm running this on Windows 7. I found a thread stating that it may be due to the game being installed into the Program Files folder that wouldn't allow it, so I moved the game into C:\Games and the issue still persists.

I even changed my User Accounts Security options, and again no change. As it stands when the game is not running, I can open and edit the baldur.ini file, save it and as long as the game isn't running, the changes will stay. However, as soon as the game boots up, the baldur.ini file is reset.

At this point I'm absolutely stumped on how to go about changing it.

I had the same problem. Right click>Properties>'General' tab>check off "Read-only" near the bottom. Worked wonders for me. If you want to make any further changes to the .ini you'll have to uncheck read only, make the changes and save, then re-check it.

I have no idea whether this will help or not, but it is a similar hurdle I had just this morning.

I was trying to edit my INI file as well. The problem I had was that starting the game erased/altered my changes to commas and quote marks. It seems my problem was that it didn't like me copying+pasting in the file. When I manually entered the changes, it worked like a charm.

Just throwing it out there, I don't now whether it will help you or not :p

Thank you, that actually did work. Now the .ini file isn't overwriting itself when the game boots. Appreciate you taking the time to respond.
