Game Launcher Freezes

The Launcher asked me if I wanted to update it, and I foolishly said yes. It froze. Now it freezes within a seoncd after I attempt to launch it every time (the little pendulum animation freezes). Can someone please help me?

Is this the place to get help with problems with the game? It was working for me, and then after clicking yes if I wanted to update the loader, it froze. Now it freezes within a second or two every time I launch it.

Mine was doing that before Update #2. Have you made sure that the program is actually closed in Task Manager before you try to restart application? Usually the 2nd time worked in my case.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sandman, but shutting down the computer and restarting doesn't help. I did find I could play the game by bypassing the updater and just launching the file buried in the BGEE directory directly.

Is it possible to get support for this game, or is it just up to us users to help each other out? It's still the case I can't get any updates because the main program that is launched just freezes within a second after being started.

I have the same issue and have since launch, i have found that if i delete the files (not the data folder or its contents) in my Baulders Gate Enhanced Edition Folder and re-run the installer it replaces just those files and the launcher works again.

The moment i try and update the launcher or update the game it breaks again though.

Just to be sure, have you guys set it to run as administrator? This sounds like common UAC problem. (User Account Control)

If so, run CCleaner. This might be caused by messy registrations.

Have you tried deleting the following folder?
    C:\Users\_Username_\AppData\Local\BeamDog

That one holds you login information and Cache, it should reset the downloader.

Ya i tried that, no luck.

My game freezes on launch after most recent update. The update immediately preceding it caused a bunch of mis-referenced strings.

I'm having this problem too. First it asked for an update then freezes, after that it freezes within a second or two after running the launcher. This also happend with the previous patch, but a reboot solved that - now it didn't.

Same problem here since first update actually (I still press that update button like a sucker hoping for a fix though =))))
I had to un-install and then download the whole thing again every time. It downloads just fine and with the newest update that I wanted to install. This wouldn't trouble me much but the game takes quite some time to download and I have to do it for a third time now.

Had the same problem, so I tried changing the launcher's compatibility mode to Windows XP SP2. I was then able to download the update without the launcher crashing/freezing. Might work for you?

I had tried this before with no luck, something changed and this now works for me.

i expereinced the same problem as mentioned at the beginning of thread. i just had to delete the 766.beam file and restart the launcher. but still: the launcher then checks the game files again first but refuses to even start with it if you don't have 1.8 gb free disk space which i don't have without moving files to another hd (and move them back afterwards *grr*) @devs: could you please allow to force install despite lack of disk space?

Yeah... problem solved... kinda... =)) To get rid of this freeze you are required to have a certain amount of free disc space (I think 1,8 gigs).
It would've been great if I knew about it sooner so I wouldn't have to download the game three times (this should make it into the notification before update confirmation... in bold letters preferably) =)).

another solution i tried today: just make a copy of your .beam-files before updating. when the launcher freezes force it to quit and overwrite the dmaged .beam-files with the copies. then the launcher does file checking without trying to make a new installation.
